Ten Federations Update

Following the failure of the Presidents of the Ten Sports Federation removed from the forthcoming National Sport Festival to present their case before the Stakeholders Conference organized by the House Committee on Sport last week in Abuja.
The Sport Federation Presidents are not letting up in their struggle to making sure that they heard and that their Sports should be part of the Sports Festival. They have resolved to formally present their case before the Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Council Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Bio.
Spokesman of  the group and President of the Scrabble Federation of Nigeria Engineer Toke Aka stated that their visit to the Sport Minister was to table their grievances  before him and to explain to the dangers inherent in stopping the Ten Sports from participating at the National Sports Festival.
Toke Aka stated further that the action is more of retrogression than progression because  for as long as these sports do not feature there is no way they can improve we will not have the taproot is like nipping the grass root development in the bud because states are like our taproot as long as we don,t have feeders from them is it from the center that we will get our feeders from?
Adding further he said that as long as these games no longer feature in the Festival i can tell you that the States will more or less disband their state associations will have no reason to employ secretaries, will have no reason to employ coaches and ones that happens that is the end of Sports development in Nigeria. On the response of the Sport Ministry to their plight  he said  i think it is the authorities who have said exclude these sports we cannot be all inclusive anymore i don,t see them budging because they are the ones who enacted  unless a strong pressure comes for them to see the rationale behind why they should not do such a thing i don,t see them changing their mind.On whether there is any hope of the sports being at the Festival he replied by saying that with enough public outcry  then is hope. And that they hoping on the convening of a meeting of the Council of Sports to save the situation.
