The Karate Federation of Nigeria have concluded plans to organize a Military and Paramilitary Club Karate Championship.The Secretary of the Federation Clement Iyaluogbehe said that the Championship would involve the Nigerian Army,Navy and the Air force.The Paramilitary Formations expected are the Immigration,Customs,Road Safety Corp Marshall and the National Civil De fence Corp.The Championship will come up at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna from the 6th to 11th of October.
Iyaluogbehe stated further that apart from the competitive aspect which will involve the weight categories,Kata,Kumite and the team championship,there will also be the combat training for Military men.
He said the Championship is a contribution of the Karate Federation to the Miltary and appealed that all the Military and Paramilitary Formations should send their men for the Championship. Meanwhile an Invitational Karate Championship is billed Owerri Imo State from the 10th to the 13th of November.This is a Tournament that will cover the South Eastern States and some states like Akwa Ibom,Rivers,Bayelsa and Benue states.

HANDBALL 2
The camping of Nigeria,s under 17 boys and girls Handball team resumed on Monday the 30th of August in Kaduna.According to the Secretary of the Handball Federation of Nigeria Olusola Luke the camping resumed on Monday after a one week break which was due to the postponement of the Commonwealth Handball Championship billed for Cameroun.
The Commonwealth Handball Youth Championship will come up from the 8th to the 19th of September in Yaounde Cameroun.In a related development,Nigeria,s under 23 Men and Women,s Handball team began camping on Friday the 27th of August ahead of the Economic Organization of West African State(ECOWAS) games also billed for Abuja in the month of September.The teams camping in Abuja is meant to assist the teams in their preparation for the Ecowas Games.Meanwhile Nigeria,s under 20 women s Handball team returned to the Country on Sunday night after participating in the week-long Women,s International Handball Federation finals held in Abidjan Cote di Voire.

CRICKET
Playoffs for the 2010 National Cricket Club Champions in the three Zones will hold next weekend September 4th.The South-East,South-South and North-West Zones will be engaged in matches to determine who joins the South-West Champions,Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club in the finals to be played in Abuja from 10TH TO 12th September 2010.
ILCC are the tournament champions having won the trophy back to back in the last two seasons and again Qualified to represent the South-West Zone by topping the Club Cricket Committee CCC,League in Lagos.
In the South- East Zone,the Champion Club of Anambra,Imo and Enugu States will lock horns at the University of Nigeria,Nsuka Cricket Oval to determine who will fly the flag of the Zone.In the South-South,F-16 Cricket Club of Benin,winners of the Edo League this season will lock horns with the River State Whales Cricket Club to determine will represent the zone in a one match Playoff in Benin on Saturday.
In the North West,Kaduna Crocodiles,Cricket Club of Abuja (CCA) and the Kebbi State Champion Club will engage themselves in a Round Robin series at the Muritala Mohammed Square Cricket Oval,Kaduna.The Nigeria Cricket Federation have disclosed that this year,s finals in Abuja will be played in line with the One Day International (ODI)standards with participating club donning coloured clothing and a white Cricket ball.

Ten Federations Update
Following the failure of the Presidents of the Ten Sports Federation removed from the forthcoming National Sport Festival to present their case before the Stakeholders Conference organized by the House Committee on Sport last week in Abuja.
The Sport Federation Presidents are not letting up in their struggle to making sure that they heard and that their Sports should be part of the Sports Festival.They have resolved to formally present their case before the Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Council Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Bio.
Spokesman of the group and President of the Scrabble Federation of Nigeria Engineer Toke Aka stated that their visit to the Sport Minister was to table their grievances before him and to explain to the dangers inherent in stopping the Ten Sports from participating at the National Sports Festival.
Toke Aka stated further that the action is more of retrogression than progression because for as long as these sports do not feature there is no way they can improve we will not have the taproot is like nipping the grass root development in the bud because states are like our taproot as long as we don,t have feeders from them is it from the center that we will get our feeders from?
Adding further he said that as long as these games no longer feature in the Festival i can tell you that the States will more or less disband their state associations will have no reason to employ secretaries,will have no reason to employ coaches and ones that happens that is the end of Sports development in Nigeria.On the response of the Sport Ministry to their plight he said i think it is the authorities who have said exclude these sports we cannot be all inclusive anymore i don,t see them budging because they are the ones who enacted unless a strong pressure comes for them to see the rationale behind why they should not do such a thing i don,t see them changing their mind.On whether there is any hope of the sports being at the Festival he replied by saying that with enough public outcry then is hope.And that they hoping on the convening of a meeting of the Council of Sports to save the situation.

SWIMMING
The Nigerian Swimming Federation have invited Twelve Swimmers to camp in preparation for the 10th African Swimming Championship billed for Rabat Morocco.
The President of the Federation Mr Babatunde Fatai Williams stated that the 12 Swimmers and 3 coaches would report to camp at the Surulere Games Village on the 22nd of August for the camping exercise.
According to to him, Kenya was supposed to host the championship initially but could not, due to financial reasons, hence Morrocco took it upon herself to host the swimming championship, which will come up from the thirteenth of September to the eighteenth of September.
Amongst the swimmers invited are Yellow Yeiyah of the Nigeria Police, Samson Opuapo from Delta State, Awolowo Shedrack of the Nigeria Police, Albert Perilagato of Ondo State, for men, for the women, we have Rachael Tonjo Edo State, Bamitomi Williams from Delta State, Esther Omosehin from Ondo State, Prelate Gbagi from Nigeria Police, Otiko Pilibo from Ondo State and Timi Onuoha from Ogun State.

SQUASH
The Chief of Army Staff National Open Squash Tournament which was supposed to serve off on the sixteenth of this month has been postponed.According to to the President of the Squash Racket Federation of Nigeria Rotarian Femi Ajagbe,the postponement was due to the Ramadan Fast that is being observed by Muslims worldwide.He stated that the tournament has been slated to serve off on October 11th and the venue is the Aguiyi Ironsi Army Cantonment Abuja.Participants expected in the tournament are the military men,civilians and veterans.

Chess
The Nigeria Chess Federation have concluded plans to org anise a National Open Chess Tournament from the 22nd to the 28th of August.According to the Media Officer of the Chess Federation Femi Solaja over 500 Chess players are expected to participate in the Tournament.He further stated that the tournament is in preparation towards the Chess Olympiad billed for October in Siberia Russia.
Ten Federation
About ten Federations have said that they are going to express their displeasure to the Hose Committee on Sport over the non inclusion of their sport in the forthcoming National Sports Festival billed for Port Harcourt Rivers State .President of the Scrabble Federation of Nigeria Engineer Toke Aka who spoke on behalf of these Federations said that they intend to use Stakeholders Forum with the House Committee on Sports in Abuja tomorrow to make their feelings known on the issue.He said though the Stakeholders Forum is meant for Football they would use the opportunity to present their case for a look into other sports.The sports complaining of not being part of the National Sports Festival are Scrabble,Cricket,Squash,Rowing and Yachting,Fives,Baseball,Deaf sport and Parasoccer.Twenty five Sports will be vied for at the Sports Festival,20 of which were sanctioned by the National Sports Commission while the remaining five sporting event were picked by the host state of the National Sport Festival..Toke Aka further revealed that if there were know positive response from the forum they would hold a News Conference to drive home their point.

The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation have released the team list that will represent Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games billed for India.The list is made up of six men which includes Ojo Onaolapo,Monday Merontoun,Haruna Quadri,Lanre Jegede,Kazeem Nosiru and Seun Ajetunmobi.
Edem Offiong,Ganiat Ogundele,Olaide Atinuke,Janet Effiom and Alimot Hussein make up the women,s list.The team will be camped in France ahead of the Games for proper preparation.The mens Table Tennis team will also travel to Dubai to participate in the World Team Table Tennis Cup in September.Dubai trip is planned inorder for the players to be in top shape for the Games,the World Team Cup ends on October 1st and they will depart for India from Dubai.Meanwhile Ojo Onaolapo will depart for Singapore on August 12th for the World Youth Olympics which starts on the 14th,Onaolapo who played in the International Table Tennis Federation Junior Circuit could not get beyond the first round.The ITTF junior tournament was meant to prepare him for the Youth Olympics.
